Mark and Diana Fragoso at Salvation Mountain

Mark Fragoso

I have always been drawn to spending time in nature and traveling. My latest passion is Infrared Photography. I spent much of 2020 in the California desert surrounding the Salton Sea honing my craft and dreaming of travels yet to come. Though IR and Night Photography are relatively new in my repertoire, my desert exploration and love of photographing began decades ago. Like many, I started with 35mm film photography beginning in high school in 1976. Later, in 1990, my wife and I traveled to Guatemala where I shot medium format range finder cameras as a standard. Then, in the early 90’s, I began studying at Grossmont College where I migrated to a 4×5 field camera. During this time, I began traveling through Baja California. I fell in love with the Desert landscape surrounding the Sea of Cortez.

I have recently returned to 35mm format (full-frame mirrorless) in the new digital medium because of the advancements of the sensors ability to capture the invisible spectrum of infrared and low light.
